A Morning Departure
29/10/25
I woke up at six today for the 9 AM train to Jogja.
Before leaving Bandung, I wanted to revisit the Chinese commercial district.
Crossing a railway bridge, I looked down and saw four or five tracks glowing under the morning sun—an unexpectedly beautiful sight.
Street Traffic & the “People’s Traffic Officer”
Motorcycles filled the streets as usual.
At an intersection, I saw the same uncle directing traffic. Locals joked, “No idea where the police went, so these uncles help out.”
Drivers would tip him afterward—a small, grassroots system of order.
Warmth of the Chinese Community
After walking about three kilometers, I saw a group of Indonesian Chinese practicing qigong.
Meeting fellow Chinese abroad always brings warmth, so I stopped to take photos.
Many shops were Chinese-owned, and the “Bandung Hokkien Association” building stood proudly—a symbol of early immigrants’ struggles and unity.
Encounter with Elderly Chinese Locals
Further up the road, many Chinese elders and youths were exercising.
I approached a group of elderly men and asked if they spoke Chinese.
They smiled, “The older ones usually do.”
We chatted and took a photo together.
Hearing familiar language abroad always warms the heart.
A Bowl of Familiar Comfort
I stepped into a Chinese noodle shop.
After twenty days in Indonesia, I finally tasted something that felt like home.
The owner was warm and friendly, and we took a photo together.
That bowl of noodles reminded me that even far from home, comfort can still be found.
Scenery from the Train
As the sun rose, I made my way to the station.
The train departed on time. Once we left the city, the scenery opened up—
majestic mosques, terraced fields, distant volcanoes…
like traveling through a moving landscape painting.
抵达Jogja|Arrival in Jogja
By evening, the train finally arrived in Jogja.
A city I had long dreamed of visiting—
because here stands the world‑famous Buddhist monument: Borobudur.
